Amazing Uses of Vinegar at Home

how to clean groutVinegar has been around for thousands and thousands of years. It has been around all the way back to the ancient times, during the early civilization of man. It has seen through all of human history, and has become part of every single household today. Whether you belong to the upper class, or the common folk, vinegar is alive and kicking in your kitchen pantry.

But what makes vinegar so special? Admittedly, the smell isn’t all that great. And the taste is enough to make your face scrunch up in a weird and funny  looking grimace due to its sour taste. Vinegar isn’t much to look at either. It is a colorless liquid that doesn’t have much appeal to the sense of sight. But yes, vinegar is very special. It must be one of the most versatile and economical products present in your home.

Uses of Vinegar

1. Cooking ingredient. Obviously, the number one use of vinegar is for cooking. It adds flavor to your cooking. A few drops of it can turn your cooking from a bland recipe to an amazing dish!

2. Disinfectant. This ordinary looking liquid is actually a mean and tough fiend for mold, germs and bacteria. 5% vinegar, the kind we usually buy in the store, kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold, and 80% of germs. Isn’t that amazing? I remember when I was little and used to skin my knees pretty bad, my grandma would pour vinegar on my wounds to prevent infection. It hurt like hell, but it served its purpose pretty well.

It especially works great for tile and grout cleaning. It gets into the porous surface of the grout and removes dirt and stains that have been stuck in there for a long time. I even tried it myself just to prove if it really works. To my pleasant surprise, it does work incredibly well.

4. Toilet Bowl Deodorizer. Spraying vinegar on the toilet rim removes dirt as well as gets rid of the awful smell of your toilet bowl.  Let it sit overnight and rinse it out in the morning. But then, what about the vinegar smell? That’s something you don’t have to worry, as vinegar smell dissipates in an hour or two.

5. Unclog drains. Oh yes. Vinegar works great for unclogging drains and pipes, and do you know why? It’s because vinegar has acidic properties, which can soften up and dissolve particles that are clogging up your drains. The best thing is, vinegar is a lot gentler to your drains and pipes as compared to commercial cleaning products.

6. Unglue tapes, stickers and price tags. Was there ever a time when you got so frustrated over stickers and price tags that just won’t come off no matter how you try to scratch them off? I have, and I was ready to tear my hair out in frustration each time! If I had known vinegar could unglue them for me, I would have saved myself a lot of grief!

7. Silver and brass polish. Wow, vinegar can do that too! It can make your silverware sparkle and shine like new – even pure silver jewelry. Vinegar also polishes brass items as well. So if you have old brass candlesticks lying around the house, polish and glaze them up. You might as well include your door handles while you’re at it.
