What is mildew and why it is so dangerous?

Mildew is a type of fungus that can grow outdoors and inside your house. Most mildew that grows outdoors is referred to as powdery mildew or downy mildew. Most of the mildew that grows inside your home is caused by a fungus, and it is very closely related to mold. A lot of people are allergic to mold and mildew, but mostly the smell of mildew is just very unpleasant. Mold and mildew smells something like a wet dog or a damp mop. If mildew is allowed to sit on clothing or walls or furniture, it will eventually eat away at whatever it is sitting on. When it eats away clothes they start to rot. It is a good idea to take care of mildew problems as soon as you can to prevent them from getting worse. More importantly, mold and mildew can pose certain hazards to our health. The following steps are steps you should take to help with mildew removal:

1. First, control the situation. Make sure that whatever is causing the problem with the mildew is fixed. One time, we did not do this, we had a condo that had water damage from the upstairs unit. Even after we fixed the damage and replaced all the drywall, we continued to get issues with mildew and mold because the leak was not fixed. It is much cheaper and much easier if you fix the root problem first. Typically the problem is caused by dampness so if you can get rid of the dampness you can get rid of the mildew.

2.The next thing you should do is to dry out the mildew. After it dries out, you can usually take a brush and brush off the mold and mildew. It is probably a very good idea to do this outside, to keep the fungus from floating around your house.

3.The third step is to kill the mildew with a mildew remover. You can do this a number of different ways either by using sunlight, using a diluted solution of liquid bleach, using a battery bleach, or diluted alcohol. You can even use vinegar or a store-bought cleaner. You want to apply it and then rinse it out or else scrub it off. Most of the time, you can kill the mildew fairly quickly and easily using these three steps.
